Acupuncture works through stimulating the body’s healing responses or immune
system. "Acupoints" lie on meridians (channels) in the body and are stimulated
by the insertion of fine needles at various points. The action of each point and
combination of points in effectively treating different ailments and conditions
has been learnt through observation. In recent years these actions have been
refined and verified by modern scientific techniques.
|
Meridians and Qi Energy The aim of acupuncture is to regulate the meridians (or channels) of the
body in order to re-open the stagnation of Qi (pronounced Chee – meaning
vital life force or energy).
Each of the 12 main meridians is believed to have its own pulse and the
acupuncturist assesses these in order to decide which points to stimulate. |

Acupuncture is thought to restore health by removing energy imbalances and
blockages in the body. Qi regulates the spiritual, emotional, mental, and
physical harmony of the body.
Pain - Acupuncture has been shown to be remarkably successful at
controlling chronic aches and pains. |
|
Scientists have discovered that the needles appear to make the body produce
its own natural painkillers, called endorphins.
